I have little free time because I have to work hard in order to do well at school. But I try to find some time during the weekends for my favorite occupation: knitting and sewing.

I learned to knit when I was ten. The first thing I made was a muffler. I knitted it for my Dad. I was very proud when he wore it. Now I can make quite complicated things. This year I’ve knitted pullovers for my Mom and myself, and a hat for my friend as a birthday present. When I see beautiful knitting-wool in a shop, I find it very difficult to go by without buying it.

I learned to sew at the age of 12. Now I’m very good at it. Sometimes I cut patterns out of magazines, but more often I design clothes by myself. I think it’s a very useful hobby. Thanks to it I have some very nice inexpensive clothes. I don’t have to spend much money in order to look attractive.

   I want to tell you about my daily
routine. On working days I usually get up at half past 7 in the
morning and go to the bathroom. I wash myself, brush my teeth and
comb my hair. While I am in the bathroom my mother makes breakfast
for me and my brother. I usually have porridge, omelet or pancakes
and a sandwich with cacao for breakfast. At half past 8 I leave home
and go to school. It is not far from my house, but I don’t like to be
late for my classes, that’s why I leave home earlier. On my way to
school I often meet my classmates and friends. We talk and discuss
things.

   I usually have six lessons at school,
sometimes seven, but never eight or nine. The first lesson starts at
9 o’clock in the morning. At school we have a lot of subjects:
Math, Russian, Literature, Biology, Geography, English, Computing,
Physical Education and others. We learn a lot of interesting and
useful things at school. At 12 o’clock we usually have lunch at
school.

   After school I go back home. I have
my dinner at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. After dinner I go for a
walk with my friends. In winter we play hockey or snowballs, in
spring and autumn we usually play football in our yard. We have a
football field nearby and spend lots of time there.

   After walking I come back home and
start doing my homework. When I have problems with it, I ask my
mother or my brother for help. My father comes back from work very
late, so I ask him for help just at the week-ends. At 7 o’clock in
the evening my family has supper. After supper I like to play
computer games or to watch some film.

   I also have a habit of reading a bit
before going to bed. So I lie down in the bed at half past 9 in the
evening and read up to 10 o’clock. Then I fall asleep.

   That’s my usual day.

My Hobbies and Pastime (Мое хобби и времяпровождение)

   Hobby is what people really like to
do and do in their free time. People have very different hobbies that
correspond to their interests.

   One of the most popular hobbies is
collecting different things. Some people collect badges and stamps,
some people collect bottles or flowers. There are people who collect
paintings or cars.

   I collected pocket flashlights when I
was at primary school. I have a collection of about fifteen
flashlights. I remember I used to hang them on the walls and to put
on the bookshelves in the evening. I switched on all of them at the
same time and was very excited because of this unusual light.

   Making things with hands is another
type of hobbies. This includes drawing, knitting, painting,
handicraft and others. For example, my granny is fond of knitting.
All over the year she knits socks and scarves for everybody in our
family. Playing computer games has become a very popular hobby
nowadays. Lots of my friends are addicted to their computers. My
parents don’t allow me to play a lot, so I can’t say that this is
my hobby.

   My major hobby is volleyball. I
attend sport school 3 times a week. We have 2 and half hours of
training. I usually get very tired after it but this sport game gives
a great pleasure to me.

   I also like listening to music. I
have a big collection of CDs with different kinds of music. My
favourite genres of music are rock and reggae. I also have some
favourite singers and I collect information about them.

   Now I want to talk about ways of
spending free time. I think that hobbies and pastime are connected
with each other because you do whatever you like in your free time.
As for me I go to sport school during the week so at the week-ends I
mostly go out with my friends. We like to go to park. Sometimes we
roller-skate there, sometimes just walk and eat some ice-cream. I
think that it’s very good just to walk and listen to birds singing.
I like to be close to nature.

   In the evenings I like to read. I
like to spend a couple of hours with a new interesting book.

Another good thing about music is that it is universal. You do not have to understand what the musician is saying for you enjoy it. In conclusion, I would like to add that it is impossible to live a happy life without music now. Melodies give us joyful emotions, have an encouraging force, help us unite in a common mood, and in moments of sad mood they give us the opportunity to calm down. Without music, our life would be gloomy, dull, boring, without bright emotions. In my life, music holds a special place in my heart.

What could be better than traveling? I can’t even imagine that. I really like to travel. It doesn’t matter where to go, the main thing is to learn places not seen before. When I travel, I get amazing emotions, get energized, and also struggle with boredom and routine. In addition, traveling allows me to develop my horizons, learn a lot of new things.

Travelling is one of those few activities that has a kind of reset button in our lives. You go away for a few days or weeks and come back fresh and ready to take on challenges of life head on. Travelling to many people is a matter of convenience, rather than a recreation activity. They only travel when they have an issue to attend to.

Travelling is a hobby like any other.

Traveling from one city to another is a very exciting and interesting activity. Sometimes you want to change the usual environment and go to a completely opposite place.

The journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow will be very unusual, as these two cities have many differences, which are reflected in architecture, human temperament, lifestyle.

Travel has now become an important part of modern life. Millions of people all over the world travel to their own countries and to other countries of the world. People travel to visit the natural beauties of the world, such as seas, lakes, rivers, mountain ranges, deserts and so on. It’s always interesting to discover new things and other ways of life, meet different people, learn the taste of different foods, explore different architectural styles, visit museums and art galleries. It is well known that travel is the key to understanding other cultures and a great opportunity to learn more about the world in which we live.

What is travel for you? For me, it’s the spirit of adventure, a mixture of pleasant expectations and a little excitement. When you start packing your suitcase in a few days, you make a list so that you don’t forget anything, and you can’t sit in one place for a long time, realizing that something incredible is waiting for you ahead.

Fun, pleasure , knowledge and wisdom are the benefits of books. Fun helps us to escape from daily life. Pleasure increases our capacity for joy. Knowledge increases our power to cope with the problems of life. Wisdom decreases our ignorance and narrow-mindedness.

I’m passionate about reading. Although I have several hobbies, such as watching movies and hiking, reading books is what resonates well with me. There are many reasons why I love reading. The first reason is it gives me a level of fulfillment. That is, books rejuvenate me. After reading a book, I feel like a whole new being and my outlook in life changes.

There are financial books, inspirational books, cooking books, business-related books, biographies, fictional and non-fictional- the list is endless. Reading is actually among the few hobbies that you learn while doing it.

Knowledge increases our power to cope with the problems of life. Reading makes us knowledgeable and sometimes it gives us wisdom which helps us to learn new things, understand other people’s minds and improve our judgement!

While most people find reading an upheaval task, reading to me is like a vocation.

It is said that reading enriches a person’s vocabulary. But that’s not all the books provide. They bring up the best feelings in us, teach us to be good people and do perfect deeds.

So many books have already been written in the world that no one is enough to read their lives. And how many more new ones are written every year! It makes me happy. There is nothing worse than imagining a terrible moment when there will be no more books that you have not read. Reading suggests what I believe is endless and lucrative, which suggests me beyond the horizon. This is the best trip imaginable.

Like all other hobbies, dancing on melodious music is one of the most favorite hobbies. Not only it involves the movement of the body but it takes your mind and soul to become a good stage performer.

Dancing is my favorite hobby. Since the days of my childhood to this day, I have learned and performed dancing on various occasions. I have got a list of awards won by me in various dance competitions.

Dancing as a hobby is packed with a lot of health benefits. It keeps you physically and mentally active. When you dance, your body releases endorphins which are also known as happy hormones as they are responsible for your feeling of happiness. Hence, it helps in improving stress levels.

Dancing can improve flexibility and strength. You can have healthier joints and muscles with some dancing moves. It also helps you to learn about your body. You will have better posture and body balance.

 There are countless types of dances today. For each type, you have to learn its moves and adopt the particular dancing rhythm without which you can’t have a good dancing impression. A good dance performance keeps you motivated, relaxed and confident in your appearance.

Dance is also called the hidden language of the soul as we use it to express ourselves when words fall short. The joy which comes with dancing helps us get over our sorrow and adversity sometimes.

What is most important to remember is that dance is not supposed to be perfect. There is no right way of dancing, as long as your heart is happy, you can dance.

By mastering dance moves you gain a lot of confidence and self-esteem. You also get an opportunity to interact with people from diverse cultures as this improves communication skills.

Honestly, it is difficult to explain the dance in words, because I feel that the dance itself is a language that speaks to all cultures and traditions. It is the thread that connects the pearls of different communities and regions and unites the world.

My favorite hobby is playing video games. I spend my free time playing games online with my friends and it’s the way I connect with my friends. Gaming means to me a lot. My favourite games are League of Legends, Counter Strike Global Offensive, Warframe, Fallout franchise and Skyrim.

Video games are a big part of our culture. They help us connect with others, they give us time to relax, and they can even teach us new skills. But what do video games mean for our brains? How does playing them make us feel?

There are many different types of video games, ranging from simple puzzle and platforming games to first-person shooters and massive multiplayer online roleplaying games (MMORPGs). Removing the boundaries between films and video games, some titles are now even being used as a basis for television shows and movies.

There are both positive and negative effects on playing these games. Most negative effects are endured by excessive playing. Your reflexes might improve if you play games that need timing.

Gaming is my way to relax. The positive effects of video games include developing one’s skills, like strategic thinking, quick learning, cooperation, creativity, etc.  Simulations which are based on the similar technology behind video games are used for training purposes (like shooting, golfing, driving, etc.). Simulations have helped in reducing the risk of accidents occurring during training by allowing the user to practice longer without the requirement of frequent maintenance. In addition to this, you can learn English while you play because games are usually in English. 

As intelligent beings, we must use our wisdom and self-control to spend our time wisely and efficiently while avoiding things that have the potential of causing us harm. The gaming industry should monitor the type of games being manufactured and restricting the game for the age for only which it is suitable. Players too should understand the negative impacts of excessive video game playing and addiction. Hence, it can be concluded that the effect of video games depends a lot on the player.

My Favourite Game

Playing games is my favourite pastime and I like to play both indoors and outdoors. I play indoor board games with my parents and my sister on Sunday evenings. I love to go outdoors to play cricket and hide and seek with my friends, but nowadays, nobody goes to the playground. So, now my favourite game is Monopoly.

The best part about this board game is that only two players can play it and also eight players can play it together. When our parents are busy with their work and household chores, my sister and I take the board game to the terrace and play over there. These days, our parents and grandma join us in the game late in the evenings and all of us have a great time playing it. 

There are a total of 40 spaces on the board and there is a pair of dice that each of us rolls on the board to begin the game. There are ‘Go’, ‘Jail’, ‘Go to Jail’ and ‘Free Parking’ boxes on the four corners of the Monopoly board. We have to begin at ‘Go’ and move our game tokens as many spaces as the number on the dices. We can buy or build spaces from a total of 22 properties, Electric Company, Water Works and 4 railway stations. Some of the spaces on the board are marked as Community Chests and Chances, Luxury Tax and Income Tax. There is a set of Chance and Community Chest Cards that is kept at the centre of the Monopoly board. 

In this board game, each player gets a game token to move on the board and one of us plays the banker. The banker is in charge of all the money and distributes a total of 1500 game money to each player. When all of us play Monopoly, my grandma plays the banker and keeps all her share of 1500 game money in a red coloured case. 

The banker is in charge of the houses, hotels, and deed cards. Every time each of us passes the ‘Go’ space, the bank rewards 200 game money to the player. When we purchase a space on the board, we pay the bank for it and our grandma gives us the deed card for that space in return. When any player happens to visit a space owned by another player, he has to pay the rent on that space. The rent increases if the owner has houses or hotels in that space. The bank collects taxes from the players when they happen to visit that Income Tax box. 

When any of us has to visit the Jail space and misses his or her chance to play or pays a fine. The game continues for a long time until we all get tired and decide who the winner is. The player who has the maximum game money and property is crowned as the winner. Most of the time, my father wins the game and he treats us with ice cream when he wins. This board game has become my favourite during this vacation.

Badminton is certainly one of my preferred sports. And it is one of the most performed games in the United States of America. We all love to play badminton. I also like this game very much due to the fact this sport doesn’t require more human beings to play it. The most effective human beings are required to play badminton, or the simplest two people can play badminton without problems. Badminton may be played with or four humans, which means that one player is in opposition to one participant or a crew of two players against the other gamers. It’s far from being played with rackets and shuttlecocks. In this game, gamers use rackets to hit a shuttlecock over a net. Shuttlecocks are made of duck feathers. And the badminton rackets are very mild, weighing around one hundred grams.

Within the sport of badminton, everybody can play it because of now not having many rules. In the game, the intention is to hit the shuttlecock over the net so that the opponent player or group can not hit it returned over the internet earlier than it hits the ground, this offers one point to the participant and a hazard to serve first.
