Мой дом — моя крепость

We have a nice flat in a new block of flats. Our flat is on the fourth floor. It has all modern conveniences: central heating, gas, electricity, cold and hot water, a lift and a chute to carry rubbish down There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a hall in our flat.

The living-room is the largest and most comfortable room in the flat. In the middle of the room we have a square-table with six chairs round it. To the right of the dinner-table there is a wall-unit which has several sections: a sideboard, a wardrobe and some shelves. At the opposite wall there is a piano and stool before it. Between the two large windows there is a little table with a colour TV set on it. Near the TV set there are two cosy armchairs. A small round table, a divan-bed and a standard lamp are in the left-hand corner. This small table is for newspapers and magazines. My father is used to having a rest sitting on this divan-bed reading books, newspapers, magazines or watching TV.

The bedroom is smaller than the living-room and not so light as there is only one window in it. In this room there are two beds.  An alarm-clock and a small lamp with a pink lamp-shade are on the table. In the left-hand corner there is a dressing-table with a big mirror.. In this room we have a built-in wardrobe with coat-hangers to-hang clothes on. There is a thick carpet on the floor and plain light-brown curtains on the window. The third room is my study. It is not large but very cosy. There isn’t much furniture in it, only the most necessary. It has a writing-table and an armchair before it. In the right-hand corner there is a bookcase full of books, magazines and newspapers. A small table with a radio is standing in the left-hand corner. Near it there is a sofa with some cushions. In my opinion, the study is the best room in our flat.

But the warmest place in our flat is the kitchen, I think — the place where the whole family gathers every evening not only to have supper together, but also to speak and rest. I like the English proverb: «My home is my castle» because my flat is, indeed, my castle.

Гостиная является самой крупной и наиболее комфортабельным местом в квартире. В центре комнаты стоит квадратный обеденный стол с шестью стульями вокруг него. Справа от обеденного стола есть стена-блок, которая состоит из нескольких секций: серванта, шкафа, нескольких полок. На противоположной стене есть пианино со стульчиком. Между двумя большими окнами находится маленький столик с цветным телевизором на нем. Около телевизора два уютных кресла. Маленький круглый столик, диван-кровать и торшер в левом углу. Этот маленький столик предназначен для газет и журналов. Папа привык к тому, чтобы отдыхать, сидя на диване-кровати, читать книги, газеты, журналы или смотреть телевизор.

Спальня меньше по размеру, чем гостиная, и не такая светлая, потому в ней только одно окно. В этой комнате находятся две кровати. Будильник и небольшая лампа с розовым абажуром на столе. В левом углу есть туалетный столик с большим зеркалом. В этой комнате есть встроенный шкаф с вешалками, чтобы повесить одежду. Лежит толстый ковер на полу и однотонные светло-коричневые шторы на окне. Третья комната — это мой кабинет. Он небольшой, но очень уютный. В нем не так много мебели, а только самое необходимое. Здесь находится письменный стол и кресло перед ним. В правом углу есть книжный шкаф, полный книг, журналов и газет. Небольшой столик с радио стоит в левом углу. Возле него находится диван с подушками. На мой взгляд, кабинет — самая лучшая комната в нашей квартире.

Но самым теплым местом в нашей квартире является кухня, я думаю место, где вся семья собирается каждый вечер не только, чтобы поужинать вместе, но и поговорить и отдохнуть. Мне нравится английская пословица: «Мой дом — моя крепость», потому что моя квартира, действительно, моя крепость.

I think, every person always dreams about a place where he can speak about his problems, chat with close friends, where he can feel happy and quiet. For me it is my family and my home. It is the best place in the world and my dearest people live here. My family is not large we are 4. I have a father, a mother and a brother. We all live together in a new flat.

My father is 45. He is a tall and well-built man with short black hair and grey eyes. He is quiet and hardworking. Really, he is a bread maker of the family. Dad is handy with many things. His hobby is fixing everything at home.

My mother is very lively. She is life and soul of the family. She is the pleasant woman of forty with beautiful chestnut hair and dark brown eyes. She is a lofty ideal for me.

My parents have been married for 20 years, they have much in common, in everyday life. Dad is impractical and needs mother to look after him. Parents have different views on music, books, films. For example, my father likes horror films and my father is a football fat and Mum doesn’t like sports. But they try to have the same opinion about the education and upbringing of their children.

My brother is only 11. He goes to school. He is funny and curious. He is constantly asking many questions, often silly ones. But this only a moment — I can’t imagine my life without our little monster.

We all feel happy when we are together. In the evenings we often have little gatherings in the kitchen by the cup of tea, chatting, laughing and discussing the events of the day. Those evening are the best of all.

But sometimes I have problems with my parents. They don’t like the clothes I wear, the music I listen to and the friends I bring home. It’s not easy to be a teenager.

In summer I visit my Granny. I love her when I was a child she used to tell me fairytales and stories of her life.

My parents are hardworking. They combine work with housekeeping. Mum manages our household very well. We all are in the habit of helping her to run the house. They say: «My home is a cosy place.» Our relatives and friends like to come to our place. My parents are very hospitable, everybody feels at home in their flat. Really.

Everybody knows the English proverb «An Englishman`s home is his castle«. Not only Englishmen think so, that’s why this phrase has an analogy in other languages. But what does it mean? What makes you feel that your home is a castle? What is the exact meaning of «My home is my castle»?

Many people think that home is not only some bricks, mortar and walls. Probably, this is true, although there is a big difference between such words as “home” and “house”. House is just a place to live, this is a building, but home is a sacred place where you could be a king/queen, where your word is a rule. This is your domain, where you could do everything you want and you also have the possibility and responsibility to defend it and protect anyone and anything there. This is a place, where your heart is.

We think about “home” in terms of where we lived, when we were younger, where are relatives, family. This is the place that brings back all old memories, dreams and beliefs.

A home could tell us what culture people belong to, because one usually keeps to one’s native traditions, although it could be subconsciously. We decorate our home, invite friends, and stay there, when we don’t want to see anybody.

Your home is the place where you could hide from bad weather, bad news, problems and unpleasant situations. You can put off all your emotions and masks that you wear in the morning when you stepped out of the door. It is the place you can go to after a very hard workday and could relax, you don’t have to worry about being so hurt, criticized or laughed at.

People say that even the home walls are your friends, your comfort and your helping hands or as it is said at home even the walls help. It makes it look like a castle or even a fortress, where walls could save a life. Perhaps, that’s why we call home our castle.

Жилищем называется место, где ты живешь, это здание, а домом является сокровенное место, где ты сам себе король или королева, где твое слово – закон. Это ваши владения, где вы можете делать все что захотите. У вас есть возможность и обязанность защищать его, или дать защиту кому-либо или чему-либо за сенами своего дома. Это то самое место, где находится ваше сердце.

Мы рассматриваем понятие «дома» как место, где мы жили, когда были маленькими, где живут наши родные, семья. Это место возвращает нас обратно к нашим старым воспоминаниям, мечтам, убеждениям.

Дом человека может рассказать о том, к какой культуре он принадлежит, так как каждый обычно хранит традиции своей культуры, пускай иногда бессознательно. Мы украшаем свой дом, приглашаем туда друзей, остаемся там, когда не хотим никого видеть.

Ваш дом – место, где вы можете спрятаться от непогоды, плохих новостей, проблем и неприятных ситуаций. Вы можете скинуть все свои защитные маски, которые надеваете по утрам, перед тем как выйти за дверь. Это место, куда вы сможете вернуться после очень тяжелого рабочего дня и сможет расслабиться, вам не придется беспокоиться о том, что вам делают больно, критикуют или смеются над вами.

Люди говорят, что стены вашего дома ваши друзья, ваш комфорт и ваши руки помощи, или говорят, что дома и стены помогают. Это делает его похожим на замок или даже крепость, где стены могли спасти жизнь. Может быть, именно поэтому мы называем дом своей крепостью.
